About Us

Thesaurus Books, founded in 1978, is owned and managed by locals Luke and Judy Macartney. With over thirty years of experience, we offer our customers the ultimate book buying experience, providing an extensive range of titles and the best customer service available. Incorporating an ABC Centre, we also offer customers access to music and DVDs, including the latest in ABC, SBS and BBC products. With such a wide range of children’s and adults’ titles, Thesaurus has become a literary oasis for discerning book buyers in Melbourne’s southern suburbs.

Here at Thesaurus Books, we are proud to be members of Leading Edge Booksellers. This gives us, and therefore you, our customers, access to the greatest range of titles at the best prices possible. We are proudly independent and pride ourselves on our ability to meet all your literary needs. With an in store range of over 30,000 titles including general fiction, crime, non-fiction, history, cooking, gardening, travel, children’s and more, we are sure to have something for everyone. We have access to an array of distributors, including overseas distributors, allowing you to avoid the uncertainties of purchasing online. Anything not already on our shelves we will endeavour to obtain for you as swiftly as possible.

To assist you with purchasing the perfect product, all of our staff are familiar with the stock and, more importantly, are passionate about the product they are selling. All of us here at Thesaurus keep up to date with the latest releases and, whatever your taste in books, one of our friendly, experienced staff members will be able to make recommendations to suit your needs. We believe it is important to care about the product we sell and this is reflected in our staff, who are all more than willing to help you. Whether it’s choosing a book for a friend or relative, finding something by your favourite author or tracking down a title not currently on our shelves, we’re here to help you find what you’re looking for and provide you with personalised service.

Being an independent business run by locals, for locals, we are proud to support our local authors, stocking and promoting their titles whenever possible. We arrange book signings and author visits and have recently launched a monthly book club amongst our staff and some of our regular customers, giving our customers and staff an opportunity to share some of their favourite books and discuss their common love: reading.

At Thesaurus Books we aim to provide the best service and widest range of products available to fulfil all your literary needs. Visit us in store, online (www.thesaurusbooks.com.au), contact us by email (luke@thesaurusbooks.com.au) or call us on (03) 9591 0811.
